School House Nursery: Food & Drink

A hot and nutritious meal is available to all children staying for lunch at the cost of £2 per day. This is provided through a company called Whole School Meals.
For more information go to www.wholeschoolmeals.co.uk/menus.htm
Menus are changed seasonally. Lunch money is paid separately from Nursery fees and in advance. Payments are made in cash and then we pay the Sandwich Infant School. Lunch money envelopes are available from the Nursery.
Please note that if your child is unable to attend Nursery on a day where a lunch has been ordered you are required to telephone the Nursery before 09:15 hrs. If you telephone after 09:15 hrs a lunch will be ordered and you will be required to pay for the lunch.
Hot lunches are not available during the school holidays and parents/carers are all asked to provide a packed lunch for their children during these periods.
If preferred, children can also bring a packed lunch which is stored in the Nursery refrigerator until needed. Parents can provide breakfast for children who attend between 08:00 – 09:00 hrs and snacks are provided for children who attend after 15:00 hrs. Parents are requested to provide a packed tea for children who stay late at the Nursery, if they would like their child to eat a proper meal before being collected.
To help us protect any children with allergies we ask that no nut or egg products are contained in children’s packed lunches. We also ask that you help us by chopping up items such as grapes to avoid choking hazards. We are able to microwave cooked food brought from home on the premises if required. In addition, where parents make cakes or food for a child’s birthday or special occasion we require parents to provide a full list of ingredients.

Snacks
The Nursery makes snack time a social time at which children and adults eat together. We plan for snacks on a weekly basis to ensure that the children are provided with healthy and nutritious food. We provide information to parents about snacks provided by the Nursery once every term through the newsletter and parents have the opportunity to comment or make suggestions to improve our offering.
Do tell us and keep us updated about your child’s dietary needs so that we can make sure these are met. All snacks, such as drinks (milk or water), fruit and vegetables, are provided by the Nursery and are included in the Nursery fees. We promote healthy eating using resources and materials from the Pre-School Learning Alliance campaign Feeding Young Imaginations. Parents can request to see this publication or view it on our website.
